The Priority of the Church Acts 1:8

Q. What is the priority of the Church?  Is it focusing on social justice. Is it the gifts and offices mentioned in I Corinthians 12. Is it to exalt Christ and glorify God. Is it discipleship and life transformation? Or Is it sharing, teaching, preaching, proclaiming, witnessing to Christ? We each could give our opinion but more importantly what does the word of God say to us concerning the priority of the church.

What is the priority of the Church? To go and be witnesses of Jesus and all that he did and taught.

Acts 1-5 touches upon four aspects of our priority:

  1. Capability – The witness of the church is built upon people filled with the power of God’s Spirit.
  2. Credibility – The witness of the church is made credible by people who have a relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit
  3. Content – The witness of the church is the proclamation of God’s grace and the person of Jesus Christ.
  4. Context: The witness of the church is done in the context of our everyday lives and relationships.
